My teacher, my hero
Teachers are often called the unsung heroes of society, and this year’s Teacher’s Month theme, “My Teacher, My Hero,” perfectly captures their selfless role in shaping who we become. Teachers do more than just educate us—they guide, motivate, and nurture our dreams. They spend countless hours preparing lessons, checking our work, and ensuring we understand every topic, even when we don’t realize how much effort they put in. They inspire us to believe in ourselves, even when we doubt our own abilities.
In my own experience, my teachers have played a big role in molding my character and helping me grow as a student and as a person. They have taught me not only academic lessons but also values like patience, respect, and perseverance. Whenever I feel lost or unmotivated, my teachers’ words of encouragement remind me to keep going. That’s what makes them true heroes—not because they wear capes, but because they carry hearts full of compassion and dedication for their students.
To make adobo, start by preparing your ingredients. Wash and cut about one kilo of chicken or pork (or a mix of both) into serving pieces. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, vinegar, minced garlic, peppercorns, and bay leaves to create the marinade. Add the meat to this mixture and let it soak for at least 30 minutes so that the flavors can fully absorb. After marinating, heat a small amount of cooking oil in a pan. Sauté the garlic until golden brown, and if you prefer, add onions for extra flavor. Next, add the marinated meat (along with the marinade) into the pan and cook until it starts to brown.
Once the meat is lightly browned, pour in the remaining marinade and add about one cup of water. Cover the pan and let it simmer over low heat for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the meat becomes tender. Check occasionally and add more water if needed. When the meat is soft, adjust the taste by adding salt, sugar, or more soy sauce and vinegar depending on your preference. Continue simmering with the lid off until the sauce thickens and coats the meat well. Finally, remove from heat and serve your delicious adobo with hot steamed rice. It’s a simple yet flavorful dish that perfectly represents Filipino comfort food.
To express my gratitude and respect, I make sure to listen attentively in class, submit my work on time, and show kindness and appreciation for their hard work. Even a simple “thank you” or greeting can brighten a teacher’s day. I also believe that doing my best in school is one of the greatest ways to honor my teachers because it shows that their efforts are not in vain.
In celebrating Teacher’s Month, let us remember that behind every successful student stands a teacher who believed in them. Our teachers are everyday heroes who continue to make a difference, one lesson at a time. Their guidance and sacrifice will always be the foundation of our success and future achievements.
