A Letter to the President

August 26, 2025

FERDINAND MARCOS JR.

President of the Republic of the Philippines

Malacanang Palace

Dear Mr. President:

I am writing to respectfully express some concerns that many of us in the community have been facing in the recent months. These issues, while varied in nature, are deeply connected to the daily lives of ordinary citizens:

1. Rising Cost of Living - The prices of basic goods, from rice to vegetables, have continued to climb. Many families now struggle to stretch their budget until the next payday. This is especially difficult for minimum-wage earners, whose salaries have not kept pace with inflation.

2. Public Transportation Challenges - Commuters endure long lines, unpredictable schedules, and overcrowded vehicles on a daily basis. For many, getting to work or school has become an exhausting ordeal, especially in urban centers.

3. Climate-Related Disasters - The recent floods and extreme weather events have highlighted the urgent need for stronger disaster preparedness and climate-resilient infrastructure. Too many communities remain vulnerable, and recovery is slow for those affected.

I understand that these are complex issues that cannot be solved overnight. However, I humbly appeal to your office to prioritize measures that will:

  • Control inflation through better agricultural support and fair market monitoring.
  • Improve the reliability and capacity of public transport systems.
  • Strengthen disaster readiness programs, especially in flood-prone areas.
I believe that under your leadership, our nation can take meaningful steps toward making daily life more affordable, safe, and sustainable for all Filipinos.

Thank you for your time, and may you continue to lead with integrity, compassion, and wisdom.

Respectfully yours,

Ella Paulino
